The Governor's task force on illegal gambling is continuing their vendetta against the allegedly illegal gambling operations. The fight over bingo machine versus slot machine has been running rampant, but a change in the winds has been detected. The Senate is meeting on Tuesday to discuss a proposed bill that would legalize gambling in Alabama.
Twenty-one votes are required to move the Bill forward, but constituents are not entirely sure whether or not the Democrats in the state can manage to pull through and achieve the requisite votes.
Attempts have already been made to legalize gambling within the state, including a temporary legislative piece that would legalize gambling at least until November. In November, that legislation would have lapsed, thus enabling voters to jump on the ballot and cast their opinions on the issue.
While some expect the vote to fail, it is likely that, at the very least, the bill will have to be reworked.
The gambling task force has, over the past several months, not only seen a change of leadership but also a more active role in the closure of casinos. Local economies have taken a hit from the Task Force's adventures, including leaving many out of work. With the new found string of unemployment, the state is prepared to pick up the tab through taxpayer's money. Legalized gambling, not withstanding Alabama Online Gambling, would not only reemploy these workers, but also generate tax revenue for the state.
