Gambling News - February 13th, 2010 - Written By Glen
Expanded gambling has continued to be profitable for Pennsylvania, and two big hits from the lottery have come back to back. Two $1 million dollar tickets were sold in Pennsylvania on back to back drawings.
Powerball, one of the nations largest, multi-state lotteries landed a $1 million dollar victory to one lucky player from Philadelphia. This ticket was purchased for the February 10th drawing. One day prior to this, a Mega Millions ticket was sold in Butler County. This ticket was also worth $1 million dollars.
Both tickets have yet to be claimed, and thus the identities of the winners have not yet been announced.
In the past three weeks, Pennsylvania had seen several winners. Between the two multi-state lotteries, Powerball and Mega Millions, five $1 million dollar tickets had been sold.
While these winnings are federally taxable, state and local taxes cannot be collected off of lottery winnings. Pennsylvania online gambling is similarly nontaxable, as a regulatory body has not yet been created. The sales of the tickets, however, do generate revenue for the state.
Pennsylvania has become one of the most progressive states in the Union in terms of gambling. Table games have recently arrived in their casinos, adding more fun and excitement to the gambling dens around the state.
