Ellen Takes On A "Simon" Role As She Joins The Cast Of American Idol

If you have missed the return of Season 9 of American Idol, the auditions process is over and now 181 aspiring singers are making their way to Hollywood to battle it out and hopefully be chosen as one of the top 12 girls or 12 boys. If they thought the road thus far was challenging, they will be surprised just how cut throat their hell week can be. Hollywood Week is where the real stars shine and rise to the challenge, and others crumble under the extreme pressure that this week holds for each and every competitor. Some singers make the mistake of thinking that their golden ticket has earned them a spot on the show, when in reality, it is just another audition process, with much higher stakes than before.

Wanting to become a star and having the drive, talent, and determination to move towards their career, are emotions that these singers will have to get in check and really decide if chasing the life long dream is worth all the hard work that lies ahead of them. More than 100,000 people came from all over the country, for a shot at becoming the next American Idol, and out of those thousands, only 181 have made it to the next round. From those 181, 24 finalists will be chosen, leaving the rest to find another dream, or another path to make those dreams possible.

In addition to going through a drilling elimination round, which will happen from the minute the arrive in Hollywood, they have to face a new judge that will be hearing each contestant for the first time. Hollywood can take a turn on the contestants and often times, singers simply crack under the pressure or throw an audition due to nerves. Ellen will not have the benefit of knowing just how well a previous audition went, that got them there in the first place, she will simply have to base her judgement on the performance at hand. While Ellen is known as one of the most beloved comedians around, the brief clips aired over the past week have displayed a "Simon" like quality to her remarks. American is waiting to see just how this comical judge will fit in along side of long time judges Randy, Simon, and last years addition Kara. Unfortunately for the contestants, there may not be anything funny about what Ellen has to say about their performances.
