Country Crossing Shut Down by Anti-Gambling Task Force

Gambling News - January 31st, 2010 - Written By Glen

gamblingWith a new director in tow, the Governor's anti-gambling task force has not missed a beat in the persecution of Alabama's different gambling venues. On Friday, the Country Crossing Casino had taken a hit from the task force. This most recent raid has left many asking one question - is it worth it?

Due to the casino temporarily closing its doors, hundreds are left out of work throughout the weekend. For those living solely on this income, missing even one day could prove devastating. According to the Dothan Eagle, between 500 and 1,000 jobs in the region have been cut, at least temporarily, until Country Crossing's fate is determined.

To add to the complications, the Friday shut down meant that employees would face trouble in picking up their paychecks, which had to be diverted to a different location.

Another source of complaint came from a professor at the University of Alabama. The unnamed scholar had told WJHG-TV that an estimated $130,000 was spent to move the raid forward.

The case of Country Crossings is headed to the state's Supreme Court. Monday will determine whether or not the casino will be able to open once again, despite Alabama's strict gambling laws regarding the bingo machines.

Country Crossing asserts that their machines have been tested by a third party in order to assure compliance with Alabama's gambling laws. Alabama online gambling continues unabated.
