Gambling News - January 2nd, 2010 - Written By Glen
In 2009, Georgia had seen arrests over illegal gambling. The new year of 2010 has not gone any smoother, as six have already been arrested after an investigation uncovered illegal gambling operations based out of convenience stores in Augusta, Georgia.
Richmond County law enforcement officials had been investigating two convenience stores in the Augusta area. These convenience stores, a Raceway and a C.K. Food Store, had been under the eyes of the law due to the possibility of video gaming terminals, video poker more specifically, being used on the premises to pay out cash winnings. The machines were found, and charges were brought against the proprietors of the establishment.
Three people were arrested from each of the gas stations. From the Raceway, Sun Chu Han, Marrus Dwayne Sweeney, and Mi Chong Curry were arrested. The C.K. Food Store watched as Kwi Choi Han, Sohna Midgette, and Young Hi Han were arrested. All six were hit with charges of felonious commercial gambling as well as the misdemeanors of keeping a gambling place and possession of gambling devices.
The six alleged perpetrators undoubtedly had no desire to begin the new year with an arrest. Georgia's illegal gambling problem has been kept relatively under control, as arrests have been made and their casino boats are continuing operation, unlike the neighboring state of Florida. Georgia online gambling at online casinos still operates legally, and allow for the same video poker terminals to be played through an online medium.
