Mount Airy Resort Casino in Pennsylvania has recently been hit with a $100,000 fine for allowing underage players on the gambling floor.
Pennsylvania Casinos have seen many underage gambling fines over the last six months, but the most recent is the largest. Six incidents occured, and the fine was so high due to the severity of the infractions.
From July 15th to November 21st of 2009, six incidents occured where underage gamblers had managed to circumvent security and play some of the slot games.
The first incident occured when two 18 year old males managed to play slots. Another 18 year old male was also apprehended on July 29th. In August, a 17 year old gained access to the gaming floor after being denied a Player's Club Card by the casino. September saw the only underage female gambling, while November 21st, 2009 held a double whammy of illegal activity. The 20 year old male who had gained access to the gambling floor had also managed to consume alcoholic beverages.
After being levied the fine of $100,000 dollars, Mount Airy had purchased identification scanning devices. These devices would assist in the prevention of underage gamblers on the gaming floor. The scanners will ensure that the licenses are valid.
The $100,000 dollar fine makes up one third of the fines levied against casinos for underage gambling.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, established in 2004, works actively to keep underage gamblers out of the casinos and keep gambling an activity only for legal age adults. Table games are soon to arrive, giving the Pennsylvania Gaming control Board even more on their plate, though they remain steadfast in keeping the children safe.
Pennsylvania Online Gambling employs similar methods of excluding child gamblers.
