NFL News - February 4th, 2010 - Written by John Ritter
While the media overload on Tim Tebow has already become incessant, and will probably only worsen for the next 90-something days, every once in a while comes an interesting story that breaks the monotony on this issue.
And while most of the debate has been conducted in the media arena, little has been said by the NFLers, who will, you know, actually be the ones playing with him.
At least until Uche Nwaneri got ahold of a keyboard. The Jacksonville Jaguars starting offensive lineman wrote on the team message board that he wants no part of the Tebow experiment, and sees no upside in drafting him into the NFL.
In bullet form:
"5. He cant throw. PERIOD.
"4. He cant read any coverage other than probably cover 2 or man cov. PERIOD (the only cov. in college lol).
"3. the QB wildcat WILL NOT WORK IN THIS LEAGUE. PERIOD.
"2. He doesnt know how to take a snap from center, nor is he even comfortable enough to.
"1. HE CANT THROW. and thats really something you either have or not, never seen a qb who couldnt ever throw, just all of a sudden be able to throw just because hes now in the NFL."
Nwaneri is not exactly a star in the league, and probably has sold as many jerseys in his career as Tebow did his freshman year in college.
But the Jaguars management is in a tricky position because drafting Tebow could completely change the face of the franchise, if not by merely merchandise and ticket sales. Tebow grew up and played high school ball in Jacksonville, so it seems like a perfect fit if any team were to take a chance on him.
But if Nwaneri's position is seconded by other members of the team, the radioactive Tebow experiment could turn volatile pretty quickly. And Jacksonville would then be on an express lane to Los Angeles.
