Call it the Ankle SAT.
Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney will conduct a thoroughly important test on his injured ligament Friday in hopes of gaining admission to the Super Bowl.
If everything goes right, he will be on track to starting in the championship game, and put to bed all of those apocalyptic scenarios journalists have been churning out since last week. That's when it was learned that Freeney's reportedly minor sprain suffered in the AFC Championship NFL Playoffs was a bit more complicated.
It was a tear. A minor one, albeit, but still a tear. He received extensive treatment on the foot last week while the team was still in Indianapolis. But now in Miami, the defender has been walking around in a boot, and the questions haven't stopped since.
He told reporters Thursday that he sees improvement in the ligament, and is ready to get back to action.
"It's starting to look more like an ankle now," he said.
He led the team in sacks this year, and is clearly it's best chance at getting pressure on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. The Colts are favored by five, according to Bodog, but without anyone to really interrupt the passing attack, an upset could be brewing.
Brees leads the league's top scoring attack with 31.9 points per game.
