NFL News - January 23rd, 2010 - Written by John
As the two highest-scoring teams in football meet this Sunday in a historic NFC Championship game, there is no question what the sportsbooks foresee. Points. Lots of them.
And the most likely way to get there will be through the air as the NFC's top-two quarterbacks, Brett Favre and Drew Brees, finally meet on the same stage.
At 41, Favre has a chance to become the oldest quarterback ever to reach the Super Bowl after failing to do so two years ago with the Green Bay Packers. His storied saga in-and-out of retirement has led him here, where he is clearly as good as he has ever been after a dazzling divisional win last week. He threw for 234 yards and four touchdowns against a Dallas Cowboys team that had allowed only two touchdowns in the three previous weeks combined.
Bodog is predicting Favre having another good day, too, setting his projected yards total at 265 1/2 in conference championship prop betting.
But if the Saints win, they will finally reach the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history and own the spotlight after there best regular season ever. New Orleans raced to 13-0 and locked up the NFC's top seed for the first time to gain home-field advantage in this game. Drew Brees has been at his best at home this year, throwing for over 300 yards in five of eight games this year, and 298 in another. He is projected to hang around that total on Sunday.
Brees is receiving a 295 1/2-yard over/under for the day, with a -125 payout if he crosses that mark and -105 if he doesn't in the NFL Odds.
To balance New Orleans daunting air attack, Minnesota will likely need the dynamics of Percy Harvin to cancel out what Reggie Bush does for the Saints. Harvin is reportedly battling migraines as the Vikings wind down their preparations this week, and his status is uncertain for the game.
If he plays, he is expected to get about four catches as a receiver, and wagers on either side of the bet return at -115.
