NFL News - January 26th, 2010 - Written by John
Brett Favre's illustrious career nearly came to a fold in 2008 after he threw an interception in the NFC Championship that essentially cost the game.
And now, after two drama-filled off-seasons, Favre is again at a crossroads after throwing another costly interception late in the conference championship, which could be his last pass.
But the Minnesota Vikings, as they collected their belongings on Tuesday, hope that it is not the last time they play with Favre. In an interview with NBC Sports, several members of the team expressed gratitude for his time with the team, and would welcome him back.
"As he always does he put it on the line," linebacker Ben Leber said. "Gave everything he had and I truly wish we could have him back next year, but that's going to be his decision."
As for the decision he will ultimately have to make about his future (again), many of his teammates won't be hanging on his every word.
"He deserves the right to relax and enjoy the rest of the year," linebacker Chad Greenway said. "I mean he had an unbelievable year like the rest of his long and storied career. I mean, he fights to the end, and as much respect as I had for him before, I have ten times that now that I had a chance to play with him."
Favre certainly has a long off-season to think about it. He looked old and beat up in his final NFL Playoff game and made several fatal errors in the game that ultimately led to Minnesota's demise. But the Vikings were clearly the better team and should have won the trip to the Super Bowl without five extremely unfortunate turnovers and questionable calls.
Plus, he is coming off one of his best seasons ever at 40, and it is clear he is still a capable quarterback, so the decision may come down to what he wants to do and what everyone else thinks he should want to do.
