Poker News - February 24th, 2010 - Written By Glen
It is not uncommon to see Online Poker sites offering promotions that are outside of the world of poker, but one of their newest promotions completes the cross over from poker as a game to a sport. Rather, poker will involve one lucky winner, as well as three friends, with the NHL, sending that player to the annual NHL Awards with the Dallas Stars.
The NHL has, over the past several years, been rising in popularity, as has poker. Both sports have been exploding and it was only a matter of time until the two linked hand in hand. With greats such as Phil Ivey from poker and Sidney Crosby from the NHL, fans of both games have had an opportunity to find a player who they could idolize.
In order to win a full expense paid trip, including flights, accommodation, travel expenses, and the coveted tickets to the NHL Awards, players will be able to compete in free qualifier tournaments through PokerStars, the largest online poker room. These qualifiers run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and will run until April 2nd, 2010. The top 18 win seats to the Round 2 Semi Finals which are being held on February 28th, March 14th, and March 28th. The top 50 from these semi finals will then advance to the Grand Final, which will run on Sunday, April 4th. The winner will take the Las Vegas prize package, though the top 5 will win some NHL merchandise.
For poker fans, NHL fans, and everyone in between, this could be one of the best prizes of the year. A free trip to Vegas is a rarity, so players are urged to take their shot at the freeroll tournaments currently being held through PokerStars.
