PokerStars Shatter Previous Record For Largest Poker Tournament

PokerStars.com is one of the largest online poker sites with thousands of online participants at any given time, but as any top online poker room, PokerStars needed something more so they set out to set a world record of the most players participating in a virtual poker tournament at the same time. This event took place on December 27th, 2009, and it was no surprise that PokerStars.com was able to meet the challenge by having 149,196 players entered into a $1 buy-in tournament, which gave them the opportunity to cash in on a prize pool of $300,000. The top prize of $50,000 was awarded to one lucky player, who we know as ‘oskar69’, but more than 30,000 of the top players received a portion of the $300,000 cash pool.

In less than 6 hours, PokerStars.com accomplished not only one of the biggest online tournaments ever held, but also managed to make their way into the Guinness Book Of World Records. What a wise investment this turned out to be for some of the top players. Turning a $1 into $50,000 does not happen all that often and ‘oskar69’ sure is glad his took the time to invest his dollar well. The top 9 players, all received cash prizes in the thousands, ranging from $50,000 down to $3,000. We are certainly hearing no complaints from anyone that participated in the record breaking event, and we can expect that next years entry into the Guinness Book Of World Records will show a large increase of players looking to get in on the Online Poker action.
