Poker News - March 7th, 2010 - Written By Glen
Over a year ago, young professional Tom "durrrr" Dwan issued an open challenge to the poker community. The Internet savant offered the challenge to put up $1.5 million dollars to his opponent's $500k, all to play an immense amount of hands in poker.
The challenge would entail a one on one match between Dwan and his opponent sitting through 50,000 hands at a cash game of Omaha or Hold 'em. At the end of the 50,000 hands, the winner would take the opposition's stake as well as any cash won throughout the event. The minimum stakes would be $200/$400, and the combatants would be forced to reload if their stacks fell below 75 big blinds.
Patrik Antonious, the former male model, had responded to the online poker challenge and has been squaring off with Dwan ever since. Dwan's efforts have thus far prevailed, as the young Internet superstar is currently crushing Antonious by a large margin. Almost 39,000 hands have been played over 53 sessions, or 4 days of play time, and "durrrr" has thus far up $1.4 million dollars.
The most recent session was a small stint at the digital felts. On March 6th, the two had sat down to play heads up poker. Four hands had been played and Antonious had won roughly $1,000 from Dwan. It is doubtful that this small victory will be the start of an upswing for Patrik, as Dwan has thus far quelled any uprising.
With just over 11,000 hands remaining, the action through one of the most trusted online poker rooms, Full Tilt poker, could take a turn in any direction. With a fair degree of luck, Antonious could mount a come back.
