Sports News - February 11th, 2010 - Written By Bryan Cross
The top two poll positions for the 2010 Daytona 500 have been established. Mark Martin grabbed the poll position, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the outside poll by virtue of their timed qualifying that took place at the Daytona International Speedway earlier this week. All other field positions will be determined by the order of finish at the preliminary Gatorade Duel Races, that will take place on Thursday, February 11th.
The second of the two races will take place immediately following the completion of race one. The even numbered positions for the Daytona 500 will be filled in by the results of race two. The Gatorade Duels Race two is headlined by overall 2010 Daytona 500 favorite Tony Stewart.
Online Sportsbooks have established odds for the Race two.
Stewart leads the way in second qualifying race, sporting odds of 5/2. As mentioned previously, he has been established as the leading favorite to win the Daytona 500 according to the NASCAR Betting Lines at Bodog Sportsbook. Despite his success however, Stewart has never won the Daytona 500.
Following Stewart is Earnhardt, who has been set as a 4/1 favorite in the Gatorade Duels. Earnhardt won the Daytona 500 back in 2004, but has since struggled in the race. He was involved in a wreck last year in lap 124 which resulted in a 10-car pile up. Earnhardt has been the face of NASCAR for several years, and looks to end his drought at Daytona. He is sitting on the outside poll position to begin the 52nd running of the race and will have no one in front of him.
Kurt Busch won the 2004 Sprint Cup series, but is looking for another career defining victory in 2010. His last win came at the Dickie's 500 in 2009. He has tabbed 20 wins and 134 top-tens in the Sprint Cup Series. He sports 8/1 odds to claim the second race in the Gatorade Duels.
Kasey Kahne made his NASCAR debut back in 2004 at the Daytona 500. Kahne won twice on the Sprint Cup Series in 2009. He has recorded 4 career top-ten finishes at Daytona International Speedway. Oddmakers have installed him as an 8/1 favorite to win the second preliminary race.
Juan Pablo Montoya was the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup rookie of the year. On the Sprint Cup Series, he has tabbed one win and 27 top-tens, including two poles. He performed well throughout 2009, finishing in 8th place in the season-long championship Montoya is set as a 9/1 favorite in the qualifying race.
The second race of the Gatorade Duel 125's can be seen at 4pm Est on Thursday, February 11th, and will be broadcast on the Speed Network.
