Tournament Updates
End of Day 1 Update
The World Series of Poker is well underway, with the end of the first day over. The first event, a bracelet qualifying event, is a No-Limit Hold'em open to casino employees. The buy-in was $500 dollars and the prize pool is $389,700. Over 800 entrants took part, but at the end of Day 1, only 81 remain. The blinds at the end of the night were up to 400/800, with an ante of 100. Chip counts amongst the remaining players are generally high, with the leader, Cesar Chavez, holding over 100,000 chips.
Two dozen of the 81 remaining have a chip count of over 80,000. The low tier players are expected to be eliminated with haste. Day Two starts in mere hours, with Event 2 starting along with it. This is a $40,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'Em game. 48 Days remain in the series, and the excitement has nowhere to go but up. You can keep track of the action in real time at the 2009 WSOP website, or continue to check back in with us for beginning, and end of day updates.
Day 2 Update - In Progress
Event number one should be coming to a close today, with 81 out of over 800 entrants remaining. Players have already begun to force each other out, causing great upheaval in this opening tournament. Less than 30 players can make it through another ten big blinds, so the numbers will be dwindling rapidly. Blinds were 800/1600 when the game kicked off, with an ante of 200. If the players don't force their opponents out, the big blinds most definitely will. We expect this tournament to come to a close this evening.
