USA Poker WSOP 2011 WSOP 2011 WSOP Event 13 No Limit Hold Em Shootout
Shoot out tournaments put players on even ground with every round of the tournament. The 13th event in the 2010 World Series of poker is just that, a shootout tournament. Based on No limit Hold 'em, this tournament should fill up fairly quickly. Throw in the fact that the buy-in is also fairly low and this tournament could possibly attract more amateur players than professionals.
Last year, this event was the 6th rather than the 13th. It didn't fill up to the 2,000 player max, but it did have a significantly higher buy-in. Last year, the buy-in was $5,000 rather than $1,500. With the reduced buy-in, players are likely to be participating in much higher quantities. The event will kick off on June 8th, and it is expected to run for three days. The tournament will begin at 12 PM. The maximum prize pool could approach close to $3,000,000, making this one of the more lucrative tournaments in the series, considering the size of the buy-in.
Tournament Updates
(New Updates Posted Daily During Event)
Day 1 Update - At the end of its first day, event 13 held only 160 players. This is down from 1,440 beginning entries. The shoot out tournament collected a prize pool of $1,944,000. Tom Dwan's bad luck has continued, while Barry Greenstein, Juston Bonomo, David Williams, Eli Elezra, and Steven Kelly had all gone home. Lex Veldhuis, Frank Kassela, Scott Seiver, Eric Baldwin, Greg Raymer, Bertrand "Elky" Grosspellier and many more had continued through the first day. Each of the 160 players will win at least $4,998, while the first place prize of $369,371 is up for grabs. Play will continue at 2:30 PM PST, and players will continue to battle through the shoot out tables in order to win their bracelet.
Day 2 Update - Day 2 of the No Limit Hold 'em shoot out ran 160 players down to 16, leaving just a couple tables remaining in this shoot out tournament. Each table has 8 players, and all players, as per shootout rules, will have the same chip stacks. Each player will enter the day with 450,000 chips to their name. Vitaly Lunkin, David Pham, Jonathan Spinks, Dan Kelly, Eric Yates, Erik Cajelais, and Frank Kassela are amongst those who survived into the third day.
Amongst the eliminations in the second day were Lex Veldhuis, Eric Mizrachi, Greg Raymer, Daniel Negreanu, Jennifer Tilly and Eric Baldwin. Every player from here on will earn at least $13,238, but the biggest prizes will be $369,371 for first place and $228,334 for second place. This shootout tournament required only $1,500, so these prizes represent a huge return on investment. The bracelet is still anyone's to claim, considering the fact that all players are on equal footing.
Day 3 Update - The 16 players remaining in the first shootout tournament of the WSOP combined at the tables for what would be the final day, all on equal footing. This did not stop eliminations from coming early, as an aggressive Daniel Fisher ended up dropping out of the tournament after his A-K offsuit was busted by an A-Q of hearts. Eliminations would run steady from there on, with Eric Yates shortly behind Fisher. Things really began to heat up after the third level of the day, with Frank Kassela, Andrew Pantling, and Robert Smith all eliminated within the first half hour. The final table was created when Lars Bonding was eliminated in 10th, leaving the final 9 to work for the bracelet at hand.
Andrew Badecker came into the final table with a cool 1.377 million chips, which was just under 300,000 more than Joseph Webber, his closest competitor. Badecker would hold onto his lead through the final hours of play, beating out Erik Cajelais and Vitaly Lunkin. Badecker had to fight through Robbie Verspui in order to win the top prize, which earned Badecker $396,371 - as well as his first WSOP bracelet.
