USA Poker WSOP 2011 WSOP 2011 WSOP Event 27 Limit Hold Em Championship
Event 27 is the next World Championship event, and you will find that this is based on the limit Texas Hold 'em style of play. This event will run like all of the other championship events, so it will not be cheap. The accolades from winning, however are much greater than winning a standard tournament. In the event that you pull down the bracelet in this event, you will be in a circle of some of best poker players in the world. Last year, 171 players attempted to win this bracelet, but only Matt Keikoan could take it down. In addition to the bracelet, Keikoan won $425,969. His second place runner-up earned $263,243.
This year's Limit Hold 'em Championship requires the same $10,000 buy in to participate, and it will begin on June 15th. The three day event will begin at 5 PM, so this tournament will run fairly late. Players can expect a fairly thin field, but the prize pool should break the $1,000,000 mark. This tournament should end on June 17th. If you decide to enter, you will probably be facing a few of the bigger names in poker, but that should not prevent recreational players from attempting to achieve glory.
Tournament Updates
(New Updates Posted Daily During Event)
Day 1 Update - Only 111 entrants remain out of the original 152 participants of the Limit Hold 'em championship, and Daniel Negreanu is currently the front runner in the tournament that will only pay 18 players. Negreanu leads the pack with 118,800 chips, while Josh Arieh has second place at 107,000. Shawn Buchanan, Maria Ho, Barry Greenstein, Alessio Isaia, Dan Kelly, Eric Froehlich, Daniel Alaei, Carlos Mortensen, Erick Lindgren, Jeff Shulman, Vladimir Shchemelev, Jennifer Harman, Erik Seidel, Matt Hawrilenko, Tom Dwan, Jason Mercier and David Benyamine are all still in the running. Phill Hellmuth, Shaun Deeb, Phil Laak, Johnny Chan and Scott Seiver have all been knocked out. Negreanu could be on his way to his third Limit Hold 'em bracelet, as well as his fifth overall, should he continue to win in this event.
Day 2 Update - Daniel Negreanu's luck seems to be on a downward spiral, as he failed to maintain his chip lead during the second day of the Limit Hold 'em championship. His commanding chip lead faltered throughout the day, leading him to a Phil Hellmuth-esque blow up in which he apparently tipped his chair over and shattered his headphones. Of the 106 players who returned for the second day of play, only 14 remain. Negreanu was sent home in 27th, just outside of the 18 person money bubble. Many more professional players were eliminated, including Josh Arieh, Maria Ho, Vladimir Shchemelev, Jennifer Harman, Jason Mercier, Bill Chen, and Jeff Shulman. The chip leader is Matthew Gallin, who holds 575,000 chips. Steve Landfish is still fighting hard, as is Nick Schulman and Barry Greenstein. Matt Hawrilenko, Hoyt Corkins, and Isaac Haxton are also still in play.
Day 3 Update - In the 27th event, Daniel Idema ended up winning the bracelet. Of the 14 players that came out for the limit hold 'em championship, only Idema would make it through the day. Matthew Gallin was the chip leader on the end of the third day, holding 575,000 chips. The final table would be solidified with Gallin under his starting stack, Idema in the lead with 977,000 chips, and a few pro players still in the mix. Barry Greenstein and Nick Schulman had made it into the final table, but heads up play would come to Daniel Idema and Matthew Gallin. Gallin ended up all in with Qd-Qc, but Idema's Jc-3c ended up winning with a two pair on the flop, which came from Jh-7c-3h. Gallin failed to improve and he ended up succeeding in the tournament, earning $378,642 for his efforts.
