2011 World Series Of Poker Event 28

The half way mark of the 2011 WSOP has come to yet another No Limit Hold 'em event that carries one of the lower buy-ins on the market. As the most popular form of poker, it is no surprise that No Limit Hold 'em would be a regular sight in the Series. This event carries a low buy in, which would generally indicate that there is multiple Day 1's, but that is not the case in Event 28. All of that practice you put in at USA poker rooms can culminate in this event if you buy in and take your chances at this event.

Event 28 requires a $1,500 buy in to enter the tournament. Participation begins on June 16th, and this is a three day event. This means that it will end on June 18th. Like other tournaments running this format, this tournament is likely to be fairly large. The prize pool will subsequently be fairly large, so you will be able to yield a fairly significant amount of money if you manage to win the event.

Day 1 Update - An even 2,500 entries joined up in the $1,500 no limit hold 'em tournament, and only 349 remain after the first day. Rick Romine is the chip leader to start off day 2, with 176,100 chips in his stack. Roberto Watanabe is behind him with 157,400. Some major players have already been eliminated, including Freddy Deeb, Jonathan Duhamel, Eric Baldwin, and Phil Laak. David Pham, Matt Afflect and Andy Frakenberger are all still in the running. The prizes will begin being handed out at the 270th player, while first place is going to earn a prize just shy of $600,000. Six players will receive six figures for their efforts in this hold 'em tournament.

Day 2 Update - The 2,500 entrants in the 28th event has slimmed to a field of 28 players, and this group of players is in the money for at least $13,905, while the top player will earn $599.153. Amongst the remaining players we have Andy Frankenberger and Tyler Kenney. Steven Merrifield held 1,000,025 chips, while a player named Aleksandr Mozhnyakov made it into second place. He held 831,000 chips going into the second day. The last place player held 91,000 chips, clinging to the table. The third day of play should finalize this tournament and give another player a bracelet.

Day 3 Update - Andy Frankenburger has come out on top to win the World Series of Poker bracelet in this 28th event. He had waded through his share of the 2,499 other entrants, earning a substantial prize of $599,153 out of the $3,375,000 prize pool. Day three was fast. Within the first two hours of play, only nine of the 28 starters would remain in the event. Frankenberger ran down to heads up play with Joshua Evans. Despite Evans boasting a phenomenal chip lead, Frankenberger managed to battle back and collect a substantial amount of chips. The final hand came when Evans, who was down but not out, raised from the button to 125,000. Andy called, and a flop came 5-d-7h-Jh. Andy checked, Evans pushed out 180,000, and Frankenberger check-raised to 600,000. Evans moved all in for his final 2.5 million and Frankenburger made the call. Both players had a jack, but Frankenberger had a 7 as well, earning him a two pair. A 3 and a 2 fell on the turn and river, giving Evans a prize of $372,498 but no WSOP gold.
