  • Buy In: $1,000
  • Winner's Take: $557,435
  • 2nd: Richard Harwood

While this tournament is not open to just everyone, Event 30 is likely to be one of the more popular events on the ballot. The tournament is the Seniors No Limit Hold 'em Championship, and it invites all players above the age of 50 to enter the event. This tournament turned out to be a big one last year, bringing in 3,142 players into the $1,000 tournament. This brought the prize pool to $2,827,800. Harold Angle ended up winning the event, bringing his $487,994 prize back to Florida. He won in heads up play against Michael Minetti, who brought down $301,839 just for making the second place event. This bracelet event restricts their players by age, but the game is still the same No Limit Texas Hold 'em that people love.

The senior event this year will be a no limit tournament, and it requires only a $1,000 buy-in. Players will be able to enter before June 17th, the start date. The tournament will run until June 19th, providing players with three days to dominate the field. We expect this event to fairly large once more, even without major satellites running through the USA poker rooms. Just keep in mind that you have to be at least 50 to enter.

Tournament Updates
(New Updates Posted Daily During Event)

Day 1 Update - The Seniors Championship hold 'em tournament attracted 3,752 players into the event, which is more than this tournament has ever brought about. The tournament had run so large that it interfered with other tournaments, with the 31st event delayed by a little over an hour. Only 529 players remain in this event, including quite a few women. Amarillo Slim came out to play, and he was sent home fairly early, as was T.J. Cloutier. A prize pool of $3,376,800 has been built from the $1,000 buy ins, with a top prize of $557,435 going to the winner.

Day 2 Update - In the Seniors No Limit Hold 'em championship, 37 of these players will be returning to the tables to participate in the third day of play. It is likely to be an exciting father's day for one of these gentlemen, as a top prize of $557,435 is readily available for the winner. There are six prizes worth six figures, so big money will still go around. The 529 that returned to the second day has battled down the four tables, and 396 of that original 529 would be paid. Craig Koch has come out as the chip lead, with 915 chips to his name. Jack Ward may make some history in this event, as he may end up making the final table in two consecutive years. The blinds will begin at 5000/10000 with a 1,000 chip ante, and almost every single player has at least 100,000 chips in their stack. Only two players have under 100,000, with Craig Zotter at 91,000 and Louis Cheffy at 24,000. Cheffy is likely to go home in the first few hands.

Day 3 Update - The record breaking 3,752 entrants into the Seniors No Limit Hold 'em Championship has been narrowed down to one, and the bracelet in this event has gone to James Hess of Encino, California. He broke through almost 4,000 players in order to claim the chip lead during the final table, and he never allowed this stack to be overtaken for the rest of the evening. Heads up play lasted less than 10 minutes, with Craig Koch eliminated in third right before Richard Harwood would be eliminated in second place. Hess went into the final flop of 6h-9s-6d by calling a raise by Harwood. Hess reraised and Harwood went all-in. Hess made the call and exposed his 6c-10s to Harwood's 10d-9d. The turn and river drew blanks, and Harwood went home with $342,407. Hess earned a whopping $557,435 for his efforts, as well as the WSOP gold.
