USA Poker WSOP 2011 WSOP WSOP Event 33 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 8 or Better Championship
Event 33 is the next up on the ballot, and it is yet another championship event. The 33rd event is a seven card stud hi-low split-8 or better championship. This bracelet is one of those victories worth higher prestige. Last year the event was one of the smaller championship events due to the eccentricity of this format. Last year's tournament attracted 170 entries, amassing a prize pool of $1,598,000. The top prize, indeed the bracelet, went to Frank Kassela. His prize was worth $447,446. Allen Kessler came in second, while Jennifer Harman, Steve Zolotow, and John Juanda were right behind them. Most of the top players were professionals, and this tournament is likely to attract an equally diverse crowd of talent this year.
The Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or better championship tournament for the 2011 WSOP will kick off on June 18th. The event, which is scheduled to last three days, will begin at 5 PM. The event should end on June 20th, provided it doesn't run long or meet with any complications. Expect this tournament to be writhe with professionals, giving stiff competition for recreational players, but also solid entertainment for spectators. A buy-in of $10,000 is required.
Tournament Updates
(New Updates Posted Daily During Event)
Day 1 Update - The $10,000 seven card stud Hi-low split-8 or better championship has narrowed down the field of 168 to 127. The prizepool has been set at a whopping 1,579,200, which means big money to the top winner. Many professionals came out, but many have gone home. Tom Dwan, Daniel Negreanu, Frank Kassela, Brian Hastings and John Juanda have all been sent packing. John Racener is the chip leader, with Akio Ishii right behind him. David Benyamine, Jonathan Duhamel, Alex Kravchenko, Hassan Habib, Jennifer Harman, Phil Hellmuth, Erik Seidel, and many more are still in the running for their piece of the WSOP gold.
Day 2 Update - The 33rd event is one that attracted a number of different professional players, and many of them have been eliminated through the second day. Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein and Jason Mercier have all been eliminated. Only 18 players remain of the original 168, but only 16 will be paid. The field is still studded with David Benyamine in second, Phil Hellmuth in 7th, John Racener in 9th, Phil Laak in 11th, Erik Seidel in 12th and Bill Chen in 13th. Eric Rodawig is in the first place position, with 695,000 chips in his stack. Phil Hellmuth is aiming to take a bracelet despite his failure in the no limit 2-7 lowball event. His deep run could lead to great upset, especially considering the talent still remaining in the field. The third day will show us a winner, and the blinds of 10000/20000 with an ante of 2,000 should help thin the field fairly quickly.
Day 3 Update - The Poker Brat has done it again - he made it to heads up play in the thirty-third event, but unfortunately his luck did not carry him through the event. Hellmuth began the day with 18 players remaining and 2 slots until the bubble burst. Phil started the day in 8th place, and his meteoric rise brought him to the top positions, all while having to deal with Erik Seidel, Phil Laak, John Racener, David Benyamine, and Bill Chen. Despite not winning his 12th bracelet, Hellmuth won $273,233. Eric Rodawig earned $442,183 for his efforts. Hellmuth had to deal with Eric Rodawig in heads up play, but he was incapable of making it all the way. Hellmuth was running with a lower chip stack in heads up play, and it really came down to the wire on the final hand. Rodawig ended up with Ah-8d to Hellmuth's Jc-10c. What Hellmuth couldn't see was a 3c-2s-2c-3d hidden by Rodawig. Hellmuth had 9h-5c-4h-7s hidden, leaving Hellmuth with only 3 outs. When the Jh fell, Hellmuth once again lost in second place, though he did so graciously.
