USA Poker WSOP 2011 WSOP 2011 WSOP Event 34 No Limit Hold Em
Even though a no limit hold 'em event started just days prior to event 34, this event will also be a no-limit Hold 'em event. This tournament is giving players access to one of higher fields out there, considering the low buy-in that is associated with this tournament. Not including a few of the more specialized and specific events, such as the casino dealer's tournament, this is going to be a tournament with one of the lowest buy-ins possible. We do not have to explain to you why this is advantageous, especially if you are going to enter. After all, turning $1,000 into a bracelet and half a million dollars is enough to ride you into the main event and a few years of not having to work a day job.
To participate in event 34, you will have to visit the poker room on June 19th. At 12 PM the tournament will kick off, so this should not run too late into the night. There is no Day 1A or Day 1B, just a Day 1. You will be in this tournament until June 21st if you participate. Keep in mind that there will be other tournaments like this one coming up, so you will not miss too much if you miss this event, though there is only a $1,000 buy-in.
Tournament Updates
(New Updates Posted Daily During Event)
Day 1 Update - The first day of the 34th event has come and gone, and only 323 players remain going into the event. There are a few key players still remaining, including Dwyte Pilgrim, Matt Affleck, Barry Shulman and Mike Leah. Several big names have come and gone, with Jason Mercier, Michael Mizrachi, Erick Lindgren, Gavin Smith and Amarillo Slim all eliminated on the first day. Christopher McClung of Montreal, Canada is currently in the lead, with 114,100 chips to his name. Luke Davies is right on his tail with 109,300 chips in his stack. The 3,144 players has built a prizepool of $2,829,600, with $488,283 going to the top tiered player. With the 2011 WSOP passed its half way mark, this tournament represents one of the last few chances for high payouts with low buy-ins.
Day 2 Update - The 323 players that came back for day 2 of the 34th event have been brought down to only 27, what should be three players. Some of the bigger names in the event have already gone home, including Barry Shulman, Dwyte Pilgrim and Gabriel Nassif. Michael Souza has taken the chip lead, with 650,000 chips in his pile. Robbie Verspui has reached 602,000 chips, so he is not far behind. The remaining field is full of amateurs, so no big names are remaining in play. The final 27 players will earn at least $13,978 for his winnings. The first place prize will offer $488,283, with all players working their way into the top positions. With the blinds at 5000/10000 and an ante of 1,000, it is likely that a few eliminations will be handed down quickly.
Day 3 Update - Mark Schmid has turned his $1,000 buy-in into the 34th event into a prize of $488,283, carrying a return on investment high enough to make the eyes spin. The Grand Rapids native survived through a field of 3,144 to win this bracelet, and his efforts have not been in vein. The WSOP Gold now adorning his wrist came with a huge prize, and he had to deal with three tables going into the lst day. Thankfully he had no major pro players to contend with. Eliminations came slow, taking more than an hour for the 27th position player to go. Heads up came down to Schmid and Justin Cohen, who had a 3-to-1 chip lead over the future winner. Schmid came close to being eliminated by Cohen, though Schmid's luck would hold through and his come back would begin. It came down to the wire when Schmid limped in and Cohen checked from the blind. Both players checked down the Ks-10s-7h, and Cohen then checked on the turn of a 7s. Schmid bet out 250,000, Cohen called, and an As dropped on the river. Cohen checked, Schmid bet 450,000, and Cohen moved all in. Schmid called, Cohen showed Jh-7c, giving him the set. Schmid have Qs-Qc, giving him the nut flush.
