  • Status: Completed
  • Winner: Mitch Schock
  • Buy In: $5,000
  • Winner's Take: $310,225
  • Runner Up: Rodney Brown

Mixed games generally combine five styles of play into one, but event 39 involves two of the major types of poker - pot limit hold 'em and Omaha. This event should be fairly attractive, considering the strength of the tournament from last year. In the 2010 WSOP, this event only had a buy-in of $2,500, and it attracted 482 players. The prize pool was boosted to a total of $1,108,600, with $260,552 going to the big winner - Jose-Luis Velador of Corona, California. Though his second place winner, David Chiu, did not win the bracelet, Chiu did walk home with a prize of $160,902 for his efforts. This tournament should be equally popular going into this year.

The 39th event, the Pot Limit Hold 'em / Omaha mixed game, is set to begin on June 22nd. The event, which is scheduled to begin at 5 PM, is a 3 day event. Tables will operate until June 24th unless the event is prolonged by unforeseen circumstances. The tournament will require a buy-in of $5,000 in order to participate. Expect a field of at least a few hundred players.

Tournament Updates
(New Updates Posted Daily During Event)

Day 1 Update - The Pot Limit Hold 'em/Omaha tournament has brought in a total of 606 players, but only 130 remain after the end of the first day of play. With a prizepool of $1,378,650 on the line, players have quite a few reasons to succeed in this event. The 39th event is another event that Tom Dwan had entered despite already being in the H.O.R.S.E. championship. Daniel Negreanu, Liv Boeree, Matt Affleck, MIchael Mizrachi, Phil Laak and Phil Hellmuth have all been eliminated during the first day of play. David Williams is the current chip leader, with 137,700 chips in his pile. Mitch Schock is also still in the running, with 121,600 chips in his pile. Bill Chen, Joe Hachem, Annette Obrestad, Eli Elezra, Barry Greenstein, and Tony Cousineau are some noteworthy players still in the running. This event will pay $310,225 to the winner, with $191,618 going to the second place winner.

Day 2 Update - Day 2 of the 39th event is on the books, and this two game mix has narrowed down to only 202 players. The day began with 131, with quite a few big names still in the running. Dani Stern, Eli Elezra, Barry Greenstein and JP Kelly had all been eliminated right before the money, with Greg Lee bursting the bubble that would pay 63 players. David Lestock holds the first place position, with 452,000 chips in his stack. Kyle Zartman is in second place with 450,000 chips. David Baker, Joe Hachem, and Nathan Wade are among the remaining players in the field. With the final 22 players, every player will earn at least $9,223 for their effort. The event has gone into 18 levels, and players will be playing Pot Limit Hold 'em starting off the next day.

Day 3 Update - Mitch Schock has won the 39th event in the 2011 WSOP, earning $310,225 and a WSOP bracelet for Pot Limit Hold 'em/Omaha. The third day of the tournament was expected to go to Joe Hachem, 2005 Main Event Champ, but he was forced out in 12th place before the final table had been established. Mitch came into the final table with a middle of the road chip stack, and it ultimately came down to him and Rodney Brown in heads up play. Rodney failed to gain momentum, ended up crashing in heads up, and left with $191,618 for his efforts. This may have put Schock in the lead for the Player of the Year, considering he has cashed five times and now he has won a bracelet.
