Casino News - October 18th, 2009 - Written by Glen
Ohio is one of the states with an economy that many are claiming to be hopelessly damaged, but many more are arguing that the inclusion of casinos within the state could resurrect the state's economy, or at least give it a nudge in the right direction.
The issue has been under major debate for months, with both supporters and objectors engaged in a proverbial shouting contest as the months roll by. Polls have been taken, leaflets scattered, and opinions given, but statistically speaking, no progress has been made. While polls can be biased, leaflets thrown away, and opinions can be ignored, the true vote is not something that can be tampered with, nor ignored.
Issue 3 on the November 3rd ballot will pertain directly to the legalization of Ohio Gambling at casinos within the state. Polls have shown that most people are in support of the issue, but only this ballot will shine true. The biggest issue supporters are using is that of the financial benefits, which is the primary reason for the idea to even be raised. It has been suggested that nearly $1 billion dollars can be raised for Ohio through the use of casinos, from the brunt impact and the trickle down alike. Unemployment runs rampant in the State of Ohio, and projections suggest that over 15,000 permanent jobs will be created through the gaming centers.
With just over two weeks time until the ballot, the debate is heating up. Religious groups and local businesses alike are pushing as hard as they can to promote the anti-gambling campaign, but their efforts may be in vain. The pro-gambling wave has already picked up momentum, and may not crash until the gaming centers are approved or tossed out the window.
