Gambling News - July 16th, 2009 - Written by Glen
The legislators in Delaware have enacted sports gambling, and now in a business savvy move, they have decided to let the games begin shortly before the NFL season. The NFL has always been the biggest receptacle of bets, and the big wigs in Delaware have apparently realized this. Delaware's decision to as of when they will start their sports betting program's beginning will correspond almost exactly with the NFL's 2009-2010 season. Preseason games are not likely to be covered, but the regular season will kick off with sports betting as an option.
Controversy still surrounds the subject, as the NFL as well as New Jersey are up in arms about the venture. The NFL opposes sports betting due to the fact that there are people who may be inclined to fix games in order to clean up in the betting circle. This is a fallacy of though, however, as illegal bookies as well as legal online sportsbooks are out there and regularly taking bets - if games have not been fixed for these venues, the odds of one state approving sport gambling corrupting the league are infinitesimal. Those are odds we wouldn't bet on at least.
New Jersey has been suffering in the revenue department as of late, and has been rabble rousing against Delaware as they think their neighboring state will be absconding with even more patrons as horse racing, slots, and now sports gambling are acceptable in Delaware. Additionally, Delaware has also approved table games within the state, but this will not be going into effect for some time now.
With the rising gambling choices, Delaware may be one of those states that does not see a deficit in their budget, or if they do it should be to a lesser degree than many others. Delaware is the fourth state within the union to allow sports gambling, and with any luck it will take off and be a highly successful venture.
