Alabama Gambling Ban May Rest On Vote

Gambling News - November 12th, 2009 - Written by Glen

gamblingDespite recent accusations flying throughout Alabama's state government, a statewide ban of all forms of gambling, except USA Online Gambling, could be enacted. With recent allegations toward Alabama Governor Bob Riley, this new move for a possible vote has caught many by surprise - and left many wSith doubt.

Senator Scott Beason of Gardendale has proposed a vote on the gambling issue. His aim is to either ban all forms of gambling completely or leave matters how they are. He has already gained a co-sponsor for the legislation, Senator Hank Erwin, who has already stated he will support the amendment.

Other legislators have scoffed at the idea, suggesting that the ban will not come to fruition, as they do not have a leg to stand on. House Representative John Rogers has even expressed a desire to legalize and tax casino gaming, with the hope of drawing in more revenue to the state to help counteract budget cuts.

The same arguments are already in place - proponents to gambling claim that people will lose jobs, that the state can use the tax money, and that new jobs could even be created through expansion. The opponents, however, have already began spouting their dogma - higher crime, negative social impact, and even diminished aesthetic appeal.

While most other states have been voting toward gambling expansion, Alabama could be voting on keeping their already limited options around. With a potential scandal currently tearing through the office of the Governor, the ban may find enough footing to move forward. Though any allegation has not yet been proven, the public may have already have cast a dark eye upon Riley's office.
