As hard as this may be to believe, hot dog lovers around the world have been making a competition out of eating hot dogs, dating back to the early 1900's. Who ever thought that cramming as many hot dogs as you possibly can, in a limited amount of time, would turn out to an annual event. Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest is open to anyone and everyone, but making it to the finals and going against known hot dog champions as Joey Chesnut and Takeru Kobayashi, will put you in a whole new hot dog eating level.
While this hot dog eating competition dates back to 1912, it wasnt till 2004 when ESPN picked up on this annual event and began broadcasting and exposing Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition to their large viewing audience. Some watch it for the entertainment, others just to witness the disgusting consummation of sometimes up to 59 hot dogs in one sitting. In recent head to head eat offs, Joey Chesnut and Takeru Kobayashi both ate an equal amount of hot dogs, which believe it or not, consists of 59 prepared hot dogs. Some may wonder, how do you possibly continue when so many hot dogs have already been consumed, a five dog eat off of course.
Competitive eating, for what ever reason, seems to be a major event at most community gatherings. We flock to the scene to see competitors shove down an unbelievable amount of some food product. Whether it be a pie eating contest, hot dog eating contest, or those who have a sweet tooth and participate in ice cream eating contests, no matter which one seems to be taking place, we have an unexplained urge to sit and watch this event take place, almost in disbelief that anyone could even consume that much food at one time. And we wonder why obesity seems to be a problem for Americans.
You too can be part of the 2010 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, without having to stretch out your stomach with the consumption of 50 + hot dogs. Intertops Sportsbook, has Entertainment Betting odds on who you think will win the next Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest. When placing your wagers, remember that hunger does not discriminate and we have seen just as many women participate in this competition, as we have men.
