Gambling News - November 20th, 2009 - Written by Bonnie
Online gambling has been a thriving industry over the years, and the province of Quebec, Canada is going to take initiative on the issue. Rather than remaining criminalized and untaxed, a proposal has been made to legalize and tax certain forms of online gambling within Quebec.
Alain Cousineau, chairman of Loto-Quebec, has proffered the proposal through a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Montreal. Through the Chamber, he is proposing that the government of the Province will reform online gambling laws to allow for poker, and perhaps sports gambling, to be legal through the Internet.
Should the proposal find its roots, government sponsored online gambling sites are expected to launch by this upcoming summer. These sites will be kept safe and secure, and will offer a full range of games. Should the proposition be rejected, online gambling will continue to be business as usual - an underground source of entertainment and profit which many Canadians utilize under the guise of the Internet's anonymity.
The Kahnawake Gaming Commission, one of the largest organizations over seeing online gambling, has over 200 permit holders throughout the world, supplying legal online casinos and some of the online sportsbooks to players all over the world. Though they supply gaming to players in Canada, the legal issues are hazy at best. No response from the government has yet to be issued, but it is expected that the number of underage players will drop through the legal regulation of these gambling venues. Tax revenue is also expected to become a large commodity through the legalization, taxation, and regulation of online gambling - a fact that the United States government seems to overlook.
