Gambling News - November 18th, 2009 - Written by Glen
Many people around the nation, and indeed the world, have been gripped by the fears of the "impending doom" that the year 2012 has to offer. The situation has gone as far as to prompt websites, movies, and even betting lines to spring up. Bookmaker, one of the most famous sportsbooks, is currently offering lines on what will happen in the year 2012.
In December of 2012, the Mayan Calender comes to an abrupt end. This, coupled with foriegn objects in space, the Mayan's take on mathematics and astronomy, as well as the mysterious disappearance of the Mayan people, has brought many to theorize that the world is set to be met with an end or perhaps a calamity of world changing proportions.
Six different possibilities, other than nothing, have been proposed by Bookmaker. Nothing happening, other than the Mayan calendar resetting, is their favored line, paying a rate of -450. The most "likely" calamity, according to Bookmaker Sportsbook, is that of a world changing nuclear war, which would pay +100. Hopefully they are wrong. Their next likely world ending event is that of an asteroid or meteor impacting the planet. If this were to happen, Bookmaker would pay +750 odds. Though speculation over a 10th planet has been discussed, Bookmaker thinks that it is only slightly less likely that this planet would collide with Earth, which would pay the unlucky winners +1000. Should a theoretical black hole open, Bookmaker would pay +1200 - should they still exist to be able to pay it, which they wouldn't, making the black hole betting line a very unsafe bet. Paying +1300 is the line that states the winner receives if the polar caps on each end of Earth's axis were to shit - an equally unlikely event. Perhaps the most likely betting line is that that pays +3000. Should heavy solar flares hit the planet, Bookmaker would pay +3000.
Though these Entertainment Betting lines are mildly nerve wracking, it is clear that there is one safe bet - that of nothing happening. If you win, you win small, but you do not lose. If the world ends, it is unlikely that Bookmaker would be able to pay out, and even if they did, what use would money be in a post apocalyptic society? Regardless, this bet should allow you to anticipate the end of times with at least a tinge of excitement, other than that of the impending doom.
