Casinos are regularly having to turn away underage or problem gamblers, due to laws and self exclusion policies. Two casinos in Iowa have been met with fines for allowing both types of miscreant gamblers within their doors.
The Catfish Bend Casino, located in Burlington, had recently allowed an underage female within their walls. Not only was she found playing slot machines, but she had also been served an alcoholic beverage. The Catfish Bend was fined $20,000 dollars for allowing her to gamble and consume alcoholic drinks on their watch. Missouri had faced similar fines earlier this year, though they were much larger in magnitude.
Self exclusion policies are in place to help problem gamblers stay away from their vice of choice. While these programs tend to yield results, those with gambling addictions may not always be able to stay away from the casinos, thus prompting casino security to recognize and eject those who have added his or herself to the list. In Dubuque, the Diamond Jo Casino has recently been fined a sum of $3,000 dollars for allowing a self-excluded gambler to continue practicing their vice. The patron had signed documents saying that a gambling problem was recognized, and that he or she did not wish to be allowed back on the casino floor.
While most casinos have very active security detachments, sometimes it is not possible for them to keep every underage or self excluded gambler from entering the premises. While some see these fines as a bit harsh, many argue that they are necessary for the protection of those who have problems with self control and gambling, and others just wish to protect the children. Thankfully, Legal USA online casinos are nearly impervious to the underage gambling problem.
