NFL News - August 11th, 2009 - Written by Bruce
The Houston Texans are hoping that the 2009 NFL Season will see them make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. There is plenty of buzz surrounding the 2009 Houston Texans after coming off back to back 8-8 seasons. Houston has a very talented team with play makers on both sides of the ball. They are led by their quarterback Matt Schaub who is coming off of his best season in the NFL. He finished last season with the seventh highest quarterback rating in the NFL at 92.7. Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson gives Schaub a dynamic receiver to throw the ball to. Johnson has become one of the top wide receivers in the league, evidenced by him leading the NFL in both yards and receptions last season. Running back Steve Slaton is coming off of a very impressive rookie campaign, and he gives the Texans a big threat coming out of the backfield. With such a potent offense, it is easy to see why the Texans have big expectations for the upcoming season. The 2010 Super Bowl Betting Odds have the Texans listed at 35:1 to the Super Bowl this year. For all of the latest lines on the upcoming NFL season, be sure to visit Bodog Sportsbook.
On defense, the Texans have a relatively young team who is led by defensive end Mario Williams. Over the course of the last two seasons, Williams has recorded an impressive 26 sacks. He has been doing a good job of living up to the hype of being the NFL's number one draft pick a few years back. The 2009 Houston Texans are hoping that he will continue to improve this season, emerging as one of the league's top defensive players. The Texans have two solid corner backs in Dunta Robinson and Jacques Reeves, but have some question marks at safety this season. They sured up their linebacking unit with some off season acquisitions including drafting Brian Cushing with the 16th overall pick in this year's NFL draft. If their defense can play well this season, the 2009 Houston Texans will be a team to look out for.
After struggling for so many years, the 2009 Houston Texans are on the doorstep of their first winning season in franchise history. They will need their quarterback Matt Schaub to remain healthy if they are going to contend for a playoff spot this season. Schaub has been injury prone for much of his career, and he missed five games each of the last two seasons. If Shaub can remain on the field this season. the Texans seem to have the pieces in place to improve on their 8-8 record last year. With Betting Lines listing the Houston Texans at 35:1 to win it all this year, they will need to play up to their capabilities if they are going to have a chance this season. The 2009 Houston Texans are hoping to put an end to their struggles of years past, and earn their first playoff birth in franchise history.
