NFL News - August 15th, 2009 - Written by Ryan
The Chicago Bears start their new regime with quarterback Jay Cutler on Saturday night, when they take a trip to Buffalo in their first scheduled preseason game of the 2009 season. The Bears have waited for their chance to have a top ten quarterback, and he has finally arrived to Chicago. Bears fans will likely only see Cutler play for a couple of series before he hits the bench. Buffalo Bills fans are excited to see Terrell Owens play again, but that wont happen on Saturday, Terrell Owens is sidelined with a minor toe injury.
As you can see from BoDog sportsbook, the Bears are a +3 underdog in Buffalo this weekend, and the two teams have not played each other since the 2006 season, the Bears won that game 40-7. These are two completely different teams this season, and the Bears should still have the advantage. Bears fans will also get a chance to see if their defense has improved at all since last season. In 2008, the Bears finished as the 29th ranked defense in all of football, Brian Urlacher and the rest of the Bears defense well have to perform better this season if they want to win more than 9 games in the end.
The Bills are a -3 point favorite to win the football game despite not having Terrell Owens in uniform on Saturday. The Bills played well last year even though they did not make the playoffs, the Bills have plans to make the playoffs this season. It will be nice for Bills fans to see Trent Edwards pass the ball with out Terrell Owens on the field, this will allow Lee Evans and Rosco Parrish a chance to build more of a report with their quarterback before the regular season. Running back Marshawn Lynch will also see more playing time in this game, Lynch started last season pumping on all cylinders, but lost some speed in the second half of the season.
The last time the Buffalo Bills beat the Chicago Bears in an NFL football game was September 29, 2002. This game should be a bit more exciting than the Bills first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans. The Titans won that game with a trick reverse fake punt that scored a touchdown. This is the Bills second preseason game, so their starters should be on the field longer than the Bears starters. This will also be Jay Cutler's first game in the NFC, lucky for him the game will come against an AFC opponent. Jay Cutler wont play long, but tonight's game will be a good indication of how he will perform under this new system in the NFC.
