Dolphins Favored By 3 At Home Against Jaguars

NFL News - August 16th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

On Monday night, the Miami Dolphins will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first preseason game for both teams this season. Last year the Miami Dolphins finished with an 11-5 record en route to a surprising AFC East Division title. The Jaguars were not nearly as successful as they struggled to a disappointing 5-11 record. This season Miami will hope to build off of their remarkable turnaround from a 1-15 team in 2007 to a 11-5 team last year. Conversely, Jacksonville is looking to put a dismal 2008 campaign behind them. Betting Lines have the home team Dolphins listed as the favorite for Monday's game with their line set at -3 (EVEN). The visiting Jaguars are the listed underdog for the game with their line set at +3 (-120). To learn more about the Betting Odds on Monday's preseason game make sure to visit BetED Sportsbook.

The Miami Dolphins shocked football fans by their remarkable turnaround last season. They went from winning only game the year before, to winning eleven games on the way to a division title. The 2009 Miami Dolphins are looking to continue their success from last year and once again make a push towards the playoffs. Chad Pennington is the starting quarterback for the Dolphins, and he will need to play well for them to be successful this year. Running back Ronnie Brown gives the Dolphins a big play maker coming out of the backfield. Second year Head Coach Tony Sparano is said to be running a very difficult training camp evidenced by three players quitting the team this off season. He led the Dolphins to a 3-1 preseason record last year, which should bode well for Miami winning on Monday. Sparano is expecting his players to play extremely hard this preseason hoping to secure a roster spot. Look for back up quarterback Chad Henne to get the bulk of the playing time on Monday. Henne has the the Dolphins excited about his potential, and his performance should play a major role as Miami looks to cover the three point spread against the Jaguars.

Head Coach Jack Del Rio is looking to put last year behind him as the Jaguars open up their 2009 NFL Season. The Jaguars are led by their starting quarterback David Garrard and running back Maurice Jones-Drew on offense. Garrard will need to improve off his 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions from last season if Jacksonville is going to be successful this year. On defense, the Jaguars seemed to lose their toughness of years past as they were unable to slow teams down last season. Coming off of only five wins last year, means the Jaguars have plenty of things to evaluate this preseason. This bodes well for their Monday night game at Miami. Head Coach Jack Del Rio is expected to play his starters for the entire first quarter before putting in their back ups. Todd Bouman and Paul Smith should see most of the playing time at quarterback. Their ability to get the Jaguars in the end zone will be key if Jacksonville is going to stay within the three points.
