Kansas City Chiefs 2010 Super Bowl Odds

NFL News - August 6th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of a very difficult 2008 NFL Season that ended with them finishing with a 2-14 record. The Chiefs have brought in a new head coach and new quarterback, which has created plenty of anticipation heading into the upcoming NFL season. Matt Cassel has been brought in after a successful season last year with the New England Patriots. The Chiefs are hoping that Cassel will be their franchise quarterback for years to come. Along with Cassel, Todd Haley is also a new arrival to Kansas City this season. Haley, who is the new head coach of the Chiefs, was formerly the offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals who featured an explosive offensive attack. Kansas City Chiefs fans are hoping that the arrival of these two will lead to a quick turnaround after struggling last season. The 2010 Super Bowl Betting Odds have the Chiefs listed at 65:1 to win it all this year. Be sure to check out Bodog Sportsbook for all of the latest Super Bowl Odds.

Last year Kansas City was unable to get much production from the quarterback position. The arrival of Cassel should help them tremendously in this area. The thing to watch for is how well Cassel will fare without the level of talent he had surrounding him in New England last year. The Chiefs finally parted ways this off season with their most consistent weapon on offense, tight end Tony Gonzalez. Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe is big, physical wideout who is emerging as a star in this league. With his menacing size, Bowe is a big threat anytime the Chiefs are inside the red zone. Last year he was able to put up impressive numbers, and with the strong armed Cassel under center this year Bowe will likely have a big season in 2009. Running back Larry Johnson is another major weapon for the Chiefs offensively. Johnson has dropped off a bit from the Pro Bowl level he played at a few years ago, but the Chiefs are hoping he will have a big year this year with an improved passing game hopefully opening up some holes for him. Kansas City should be much better offensively in 2009, but just how good they can be will depend on if the Chiefs have enough weapons for Cassel to throw to.

After ranking 31st last year in yards given up per game, the Chiefs have decided to change to a 3-4 scheme defensively this season. Kansas City was atrocious on defense last year and ranked near the bottom in many statistical categories. One of their biggest weaknesses was their inability to put pressure on the quarterback last season. Kansas City will need to improve greatly in this area if they are going to be successful this season. The Chiefs drafted defensive end Tyson Jackson with the third overall pick in this year's NFL draft, hoping that he will provide pressure on opposing quarterbacks this season. Both Mike Vrabel and Zach Thomas were signed this off season which should help the Chiefs drastically at linebacker this year. If these three are able to step in and play well right away, Kansas City will be have much more success on defense this season. Though the Kansas City will likely find much more success in 2009 than they did last year, at 65:1 the Chiefs are truly a long shot to win the Super Bowl this season.
