NFL News - August 18th, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith
Early Monday afternoon, in Napa California, where the Raiders practice during the summer, reports arose that head coach Tom Cable struck an assistant while in the locker room. The assistant, was Randy Hanson, who is a member of the Oakland Raiders defensive assistant staff. Reports are, that Hanson was treated on August 5, at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa California for a lower jaw injury. When asked during Media interviews at practice on Monday, To Cable denied all reports that he struck another member of the Raiders coaching staff.
ESPN's own Mark Schlereth, also reports that Tom Cable told him no punches were thrown during the altercation. ESPN also reported, that "former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah told Chris Mortensen, ESPN NFL analyst, that Hanson broke a facial Bone when his cheek hit a cabinet in a team meeting room when Cable flipped him out of his chair." Tom Cable took over as the Oakland Raiders head coach after week 4 of the 2008 season, in which Raiders owner Al Davis fired former head coach Lane Kiffin.
Cable had these comments to the Media about the incident "It's an internal issue that we are dealing with, and that's all I'm going to say," Cable also stated when asked constantly about the situation "I'm not going to comment on that." A fiery head coach, that's not afraid to attack his own staff members, just might be what the Raiders football needs to purse a winning football season. Cable was a surprise when he was announced as the head coach for the Raiders football team, however he managed to win 4 games in 12 attempts, and won the last two games of the season in 2008.
Oakland Raider football players are already commenting on the Manner. ESPN reports that corner back Nnamdi Asomugha had these comments about the incident "I don't even know what they were saying, I think there's still some guys who don't even know. I found out as I was coming out on the field. Guys were finding out here and there. It wasn't like a big announcement, so the reaction wasn't like a collective reaction. People were like, 'What's going on?' -- trying to find out, but no one really knew." The Raiders have not yet released comments regarding Randy Hanson's job security, or if he has decided to prees charges against the Raiders head coach. More information will be provided upon discovery.
