Pittsburgh Steelers are a +3 1/2 underdo in Washington

NFL News - August 22nd, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith

The NFL preseason is on the way, and their are 10 different games to watch or bet on today. Credible online sportsbooks such as Bodog, have released game lines, point spread game lines, and Over and Under lines on all 10 match ups. One of the most interesting match ups to watch or wager on this weekend, is the game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins. Bodog has the Washington Redskins as a -3 1/2 point favorite to win the game at home in Washington, and the Steelers are a +3 1/2 underdog in their second game of the preseason, their first on the road. Bodog has also set the Over and Under line at 33 points, both of these team failed to record over 33 points in their first preseason games of the year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the 2009 preseason as the defending Super Bowl Champions form last year. The Steelers played Played well in their first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, claiming victory with a final score of 20-10. However quarterback Ben Roethlisburger, will not be starting the game today. Roethlisburger injured his Achilles heal on the last scheduled practice of training camp. Roethlisburger is listed as questionable for the game tonight, and other Steelers players that are listed as questionable are James Harrison, and Sean McHugh. The Steelers will likely struggle in this game with out Ben Roethlisburger in the starting line up. Who to watch for? Willie Parker, the running back for the Steelers is a good player to keep an eye on in this game. With big Ben side lined, the Steelers will turn to the running game tonight in order to get the ball in the end zone. Willie Parker has not looked like himself this preseason, and this game should be a good indication of how well he will play in the 2009 regular season.

The Washington Redskins failed to win their first preseason game of the year. In fact they failed to even score a single point in that game against the Baltimore Ravens defense. The Redskins did not catch a break in this game, as the Steelers defense is just as dominate as the Ravens. What to look for from the Redskins? The Redskins defense is key to their success his year. The Redskins spared no expense to get the defense better from last season, and last season the Redskins were ranked in the top ten in almost every defensive statistical category. This off season the Redskins signed Nose Tackle Albert Haynesworth, in hopes that he can plug the hole in their opponents rushing attack. With big Ben injured for this game the Steelers are going to run the ball more than often, this game will be a good indicator of how good the Redskins can stop the run in 2009. This game will be one of the most exciting match ups of the weekend, last year when these two team played each other in the regular season, the Steelers won with a final score of 23 - 6. Look for the Redskins to return the favor tonight in Washington.
