Ravens Listed As 3 Point Favorites Against The Redskins

NFL News - August 13th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

The Washington Redskins will hit the road on Thursday night for a preseason match up at the Baltimore Ravens. This will be the first chance for NFL fans to see both teams in action this year, as it will be the first preseason game for both. The Redskins finished last season at the bottom of the NFC East with a record of 8-8. It was a much different story for the Ravens as they finished the regular season with a 11-5 record, before making it all the way to the AFC Championship Game where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both Washington and Baltimore have big expectations for the 2009 NFL Season. For the Thursday night preseason game, Betting Lines have the Baltimore Ravens as the favorite listing them at -3 (even). The visiting Washington Redskins are the underdog listed at +3 (-120). Betting Odds have the moneyline's for the game listed at Ravens -150 and Redskins +130. After coming off a sub par season last year, Washington is hoping to once again make a return to the playoffs in 2009. The preseason game at the Ravens, will be the first chance for fans to get a look at the 2009 Washington Redskins. During the off season, Washington added the most sought after defensive free agent, by signing defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to a huge $100 million contract. Haynesworth will probably not play all that much against the Ravens, but it will be exciting to see what kind of an impact he will have on the Redskins defense. Thursday's game will also be the first chance for fans to see Washington's first round draft pick Brian Orakpo. With both Orakpo and Hayneworth joining the Redskins defense in the off season, Washington should have a much improved defense this season. Since most of the starters will not play very much during Thursday's preseason game, starting quarterback Jason Campbell will likely only play a few series. Second string quarterback Todd Collins, and third string quarterback Colt Brennan, will both have a big impact on whether Washington will stay within the three point spread or not.

The 2009 Baltimore Ravens are hoping to build off a very successful season a year ago. Second year quarterback Joe Flacco was very impressive as a rookie last year, and Thursday's game will be the first chance to see how he looks coming into this season. Baltimore is best known for their menacing defense, and the 2009 NFL Season should be much of the same as most of the defense is returning. The game against Washington will be the first chance to see stars like Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, and Ed Reed in action this season. Since most of the preseason game will be played by the second and third string players, it will be key for the Ravens to get a big game out of back up quarterback Troy Smith. Baltimore has been impressed with Smith's progression as a quarterback, so he may end up being the difference in the Ravens covering the spread on Thursday. Betting Lines have the total points for tonight's game listed at 31.5. (-110). Be sure to check out BetUS for all of your betting needs on Thursday's Redskins vs Ravens preseason game.
