Super Bowl Odds for the Indianapolis Colts

NFL News - August 19th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

The Indianapolis Colts won their final nine games last year, finishing the season second in the AFC South at 12-4. This earned them a wild card birth, but the Colts lost in the first round of the playoffs to the San Diego Chargers. The 2009 Indianapolis Colts will be entering the season without longtime head coach Tony Dungy. With his departure, Jim Caldwell will take over as the Colts head coach this season. One thing will remain the same for the Colts this year, perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Peyton Manning will once again be under center. Manning is coming off of a great season which earned him NFL MVP honors. The 2009 Indianianapolis Colts should have a potent offense with Manning leading them, but it will be the performance of their defense which will be the key to their success this year. The 2010 Super Bowl Odds have the Indianapolis Colts listed at 14:1 to win the Super Bowl this year. Visit BetUS for all of the 2010 Super Bowl Odds.

With Peyton Manning leading the Colts on offense this year, they should have no problem moving the ball down the field. Manning has been one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL for many years now, and with his remarkable play down the stretch last year Manning shows no signs of slowing down. Long time Colts WR Marvin Harrison was released this off season, but the Colts still have some talent at the position. Reggie Wayne will be the team's number one receiver this year, giving Manning a dynamic player to throw to. Anthony Gonzalez and Dallas Clark will also provide Manning with some viable options in the passing game. One of the weaknesses for the Colts last year was their running game. The addition of Donald Brown via the 2009 NFL Draft should provide the Colts with a boost in their rushing attack. The 2009 Indianapolis Colts will return a solid offensive line which should provide Manning with plenty of protection. The Indianapolis Colts should again have an explosive offense this season.

Defensively, the Indianapolis Colts will need to improve off of last year's performance if they are going to contend for the Super Bowl this year. One of the biggest weaknesses for them last season was their defensive line. They addressed this issue by acquiring some players this off season. Dwight Freeney is by far the team's best defensive lineman, accounting for 10.5 sacks last year. The Colts have a solid group of linebackers led by the emerging Freddy Keiaho and Clint Sessions. Both have been extremely reliable for the Colts, and should once again be productive in 2009. Safety Bob Sanders is coming off an injury plagued season, but is one of the NFL's top defensive players when healthy. Sanders will need to have a big season for Indianapolis if they are going to be solid defensively. With betting lines listed the Colts at 14:1 to win the Super Bowl this year, the 2009 Indianapolis Colts should be a team to look out for this season.

*1/18/2010 Update*
Going into Conference Championship weekend of the 2009 NFL Playoffs, the Colts will be the favorite to win Super Bowl XLIV. According to Super Bowl Odds at BetUS Sportsbook, Indianapolis is a 6 to 5 favorite. A win against the Jets on Sunday, and a win against the NFC Champion, wins the bet.
