NFL News - July 28th, 2009 - Written by Bruce
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the reigning Super Bowl Champions after a thrilling 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in last year's Super Bowl. The 2010 Super Bowl Betting Odds have Pittsburgh listed as the second favorite to win the Super Bowl with the line set at 9-1. The Steelers will again be a threat to win it all this season returning nearly all of their players from a season ago. After winning it all last year the Steelers will look to continue doing what has made them so successful over the years. A ferocious defense and a very solid running game are the staples of this team's success and will once again be what they lean on in 2010.
What makes Pittsburgh so tough to beat is there incredibly tough defense. The Steelers are awesome against the run and the pass making them very difficult for opposing offenses to play against. In 2009, the Steelers gave up under 238 total yards a game which was by far the best in the NFL. If that is not impressive enough, they also gave up under 14 points per game which was also the best in the league. The Steelers will once again have one of the elite defenses in the NFL this year. Safety Troy Polamalu has been one of the top defenders in the league over the last few years and seems to always make a big play when they need it. Pittsburgh also returns the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison. Harrison is an outstanding linebacker who had one of the best plays in Super Bowl history last year. He returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown which completely shifted the momentum of the game to the Steelers. When looking at the 2010 Super Bowl Betting Lines make sure to take the stout Pittsburgh defense into account when placing your bet.
The Pittsburgh offense is led by their Pro Bowl QB Ben Roethlisberger. At only 27 years old Roethlisberger has already won 2 Super Bowls proving he is one of the clutchest quarterbacks in the league. It seems like whenever the Steelers need him to make a big play for them he always steps up and gets the job done. That being said, the Pittsburgh rushing attack is still their primary option on offense. They have a trio of running backs who will give them a potent rushing attack this season. Starter Willie Parker will lead the way with Mewelde Moore and Rashard Mendenhall providing a big boost off of the bench. Pittsburgh also has two excellent wide receivers in Hines Ward and Santionio Holmes. With a solid offense capable of putting up some points to go along with an unbelievable Pittsburgh defense, it is easy to see why they are one of the favorites for the 2010 Super Bowl Betting Odds.
