At the end of Buffalo Bills practice on Sunday afternoon, reporters gathered like they often do around all-star wide receiver Terrell Owens. This time however Owens was not voicing his opinions on his own life, instead Owens took the time to tell reporters how he felt about the Michael Vick situation. ESPN reports that Terrell Owens had this to say about Roger Goodell's handling of the Michael Vick case "It's Unfair ". It's become known after Sundays talk with the press that Owens wants Vick to be reinstated back into the NFL as soon as possible.
Later on Sunday afternoon Owens had further comments for the Commissioner of the National Football League stating "I think he's done the time for what he's done. I don't think it's really fair for him to be suspended four more games," Owens went on to say "It's almost like kicking a dead horse in the ground. ... The guy's already suffered so much. And to add a four-game suspension on a two-year prison sentence, that's ridiculous."
Early Monday morning Vick held a meeting with Commissioner Rodger Goodell and and was semi-reinstated to the National Football League. Vick's reinstatement comes with a couple of league stipulations. Vick now has the opportunity to sign a contract with any NFL football team he can find that will actually sign him and can begin mini camp work outs and meetings. Vick is only allowed to play in the final two preseason game before the regular season starts. Vick can attend and participate in all football activities once the regular season begins. Commissioner Goodell stated the earliest Vick can began playing in actual regular season football games will be week 6 and that is still to be determined at the moment.
ESPN reports Rodger Goodell had this to say to Michael Vick "I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you and to dedicate yourself to rebuilding your life and your career. If you do this, the NFL will support you." Goodell later said "I accept that you are sincere when you say that you want to, and will, turn your life around, and that you intend to be a positive role model for others."
Vick has a meeting in Norfolk Virgina this Friday to review with his creditors, how he plans to pay back the 20 million in debt he owes. The plan also obviously involves Vick playing in the NFL again and receiving a large NFL contract. However the 10 year 130 million dollar contract he received from the Atlanta Falcons just a few years ago is nowhere close to the low level deal he will receive this season. Not to mention the millions of dollars he accrued over years off endorsements. Vick will have a trouble some life in years to come as Vick haters are sure to show up in what ever city he lands in. The only thing left Vick can do to salvage his career and reputation is to be the best football player he can possibly be. We as Americans have a funny way of forgetting things when our favorite football players score touchdowns.
