NFL News - July 22nd, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith
Mike Vick and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell have reportedly arranged for a live meeting between both parties on either Thursday or Friday afternoon. The bases of the meeting will consist of whether Mike Vick will be reinstated into the National Football League in 2009. Most believe that Goodell will allow Vick an opportunity to join a team and participate in training camp for what ever team decides to give Vick a contract. Goodell has said in the past that allowing Vick to practice with a team during mini camp does not mean he will be allowed to play regular season football in 2009. It only means that the option to play football this year still exist.
Most speculate that Goodell will treat Vick's situation in a similar fashion as to how he treated the Adam Jones case last year with the Dallas Cowboys. Goodell allowed pac-man Jones to practice all summer long with the Cowboys before reinstating him as an NFL player just days before the preseason began. In a meeting last year about Federal dog fighting charges between Vick and Goodell, Vick supposedly lied to Goodell about the actual incident that took place. So many look at this meeting as a maker or breaker for Mike Vick's football career and, that's just what this meeting is.
Vick will likely gain the ability to join a team this off season and work in mini camps all summer long but with that will come a price. Goodell will probably suspend Vick for a couple games at the start of the regular season and allow him to play the remainder of the regular season games. The only problem at this point for Mike Vick is actually signing a contact with an NFL football team. Many have Speculated that the New England Patriots and other teams have interest in signing Mike Vick to a short term deal after his reinstatement from Roger Goodell. Still these are only speculations at the moment, no team has come out right and announced extreme interest in the possibility of acquiring Mike Vick for the 2009 football season. Vick could easily get reinstated to play football in the NFL and not have a team sign him to a deal. Lets be serious teams want Vick, yea he hasn't played football in two plus years, yes he comes with a bag full of problems but. This is Michael Vick we are talking about here, you mean to tell me the Cowboys or Lions wont sign Vick for one year at 700,000 dollars. Your damn right they will and be prepared to see Vick hit the football field again in 2009.
