NFL News - July 7, 2009 - Written by Jimmy
The Nashville Police Department officially ruled the shooting death of Steve McNair a homicide, on Monday. McNair, found dead on Saturday, was shot four times, including two shots to the chest and two to the head. McNair was found with an "acquaintance", Sahel Kazemi, who was also dead from a single shot to the head, at the scene of the crime. While the Nashville authorities believe this could be a case of Murder/Suicide, they aren't ready to declare that just yet.
It is speculated that Kazemi was the girlfriend of ex-Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair. The two had been seen in several photos together, including some which had been released by TMZ.com which showed the two parasailing. Thursday night, the two were out on the town at which time Kazemi was pulled over for a DUI stop, driving the couple's 2007 Cadillac Escalade, which had been registered to both parties. That night, Kazemi was arrested for DUI, while McNair, who was impaired, was released on his own recognizance.
Things apparently took a turn for the worse on Saturday. It is unknown what started the arguement, or if there even was one, but all that is known is that two people have lost their lives in this unfortunate event. Witnesses reported seeing McNair arrive home in the early hours of Saturday morning, which was the last time he was seen alive.
With so many questions left unanswered, and with much speculation in the air, one thing is certain, Steve McNair did not take his own life. Obviously, he would not have been able to shoot himself four times, including the two shots that went into McNair's head. As the investigation moves forward, things are looking more like the suggested Murder/Suicide to be the case. It was revealed on Monday that the gun used to kill McNair was purchased by Kazemi earlier last week. Kazemi supposedly bought the firearm from an unknown source late last week, only hours after the DUI had occured.
Steve McNair played 13 seasons with the Tennessee Titans and earned MVP honors in 2003. He was warrior on the field, and a community leader off of it. McNair participated in several charities, including volunteering his time to help with relief efforts of Hurricane Katrina. McNair is survived by his wife Mechelle McNair, and his four sons.
