Denver Edges Bengals

NFL News - September 13th, 2009 - Written by John

denver broncosThe Denver Broncos can breathe a little easier for one more week.

Amidst questions of offensive efficiency, stemming from a miserable preseason, the Broncos squeaked past Cincinnati Sunday, 12-7, and managed to avoid losing one of the few games they will be favored to win.

Brandon Stokley only had one catch, but made it count, hauling in an 87-yard strike from Orton and depositing it into the end zone with 28 seconds left on the clock.

It was part of a two-play drive in which quarterback Kyle Orton did enough to subdue some of the pain in losing Pro Bowler Jay Cutler. He finished steady, throwing for 243 yards and a touchdown.

Chad Ochocinco said he would shock fans with his touchdown celebration, losely referring to the communication program, twitter as his primary vehicle. Despite his 89 yards receiving, Ochocinco never got to the promise land and will have to wait another day. Cedric Benson had the Bengals' only touchdown and ran for 76 yards on 21 carries. He's been a welcome addition to the back field so far, taking over 75-percent of the Bengals opening day carries.

Denver is still looking for answers in their back field. Five Broncos had at least one carry, although only totaling 75 yards. They were a woeful 3-for-12 on third downs.
