NFL News - November 15th, 2009 - Written by John
Consider the first half of the season to be a total loss, and the second half to be a renaissance. With Vince Young takin the snaps, the Tennessee Titans have completely shed the shell of their former selves, and look completely capable of making Chris Johnson's claim of 10-straight wins seem all too real.
Johnson became only the 10th player since 1960 to have 130 yards on the ground and 100 through the air in a 41-17 win over the Buffalo Bills that got ugly late. Buffalo was in it the entire game, but two late interceptions were both returned for touchdowns and Tennessee scored 24 unanswered in the fourth quarter to turn the game into a laugher. Johnson scored twice for the third-straight week and is making a case to be in a tough conversation for NFL MVP. He is the first to reach 1,000 rushing yards this year.
All of Johnson's receiving yards came on short dumps and screens from Young. He was the recipient of nine of Young's 17 completions, and the rest of the receiving corps only had 110 yards.
Terrell Owens and Trent Edwards were both back for the Bills and produced well in their first game together since Week Five. Owens gobbled up 85 of Edwards' 185 yards on three catches, but it was Lee Evans who reaped the rewards. Evans had two touchdown catches in the first half, allowing Buffalo to get off the a 17-14 lead early on.
With a smooth offensive attack, the Bills implemented the wildcat offense effectively, using it to put up their first points. Fred Jackson took the snap and did a faux Tim Tebow, taking two steps forward to fake a run before hitting Evans in the end zone to go up 7-0.
Johnson made a quick answer, getting a key block from Young before scampering 28 yards to the end zone. Johnson had 52 yards on that one drive.
Owens finally got into the mix on the Bills next scoring drive, when he caught a 46 yard pass from Edwards and bowed to the crowd. The fans had been hard on him for missing significant practice time, and mouthing off to players and coaches. That reception set up Evans' second touchdown, an eight-yard connection that gave his team a three-point lead heading into the half.
