NFL News - November 22nd, 2009 - Written by John
Earlier in the week, T.J. Houshmanzadeh briefly reflected about his decision to sign with the Seattle Seahawks instead of the Minnesota Vikings. With Minnesota's quarterbacking situation in limbo, the wideout opted to go to Seattle with a more prominent quarterback in Matt Hasselbeck, a decision he has since questioned. Instead of floundering in the division, he would've been a part of Minnesota's meteoric rise to the top of the NFC North, and would've been a part of the 35-9 dismantling of the Seahawks on Sunday. The Vikings easily cleared the 12 1/2-point spread alloted prior to kickoff.
Brett Favre threw four touchdowns, two to Sidney Rice, and instead Houshmanzadeh was on the receiving end of a blow that set the Seattle Seahawks staggering backwards. Favre completed 22-of-25 passes for 213 yards to secure his spot as the top-rated passer in the league.
Bad news for Houshmanzadeh, who only caught four passes for 36 on the day and didn't even sniff the end zone. Instead, Hasselbeck went to the other side of the field most plays, hitting running back Justin Forsett and wideout Nate Burleson for a combined 14 completions and 180 yards.
Rice couldn't be happier about Houshmanzadeh's decision. He has suddenly become a star for the Vikings and will soon be cracking the 1,000-yard mark in only his third year. He finished the day with six catches for 89 yards, and has 875 on the year.
And it didn't seem to really matter who is throwing the ball.
By the fourth quarter, Favre was already relaxing on the sideline, giggling away the game while Tarvaris Jackson made a splash in the stat sheet. Jackson completed six of his first seven passes, including a 34-yard score to Rice that capped a 10-play, 80-yard march to make it 35-3. Jackson ended up with one more incompletion, but had 77 yards with an averaged of 9.6 yards per completion.
The running game was fluid also. Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor combined for 155 yards on 25 carries, although the pair was held out of the end zone for the first time since Week Six.
