Sanchez Breaks Jets Record, Beats Titans

NFL News - September 27th, 2009 - Written by John

jetsThe Titans couldn't get their revenge. A year after the New York Jets spoiled the Titans undefeated run at 10, Tennessee couldn't return the favor, falling to 0-3 with a 24-17 loss Sunday.

Mark Sanchez became the first rookie quarterback to win three straight games to start the season and the Jets are 3-0 for the first time since 2004. Sanchez aired it out for two touchdowns and also had a tough 14-yard touchdown run, being crunched by three defenders upon diving into the end zone.

The Titans grabbed ahold of the lead midway through the game but couldn't play from behind late. Kerry Collins was 0 for his last 13 pass attempts and was a miserable 15-for-37 overall with two interceptions. His biggest pick came when the Titans had a good chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter after Chris Hope stepped in front of a Sanchez pass. David Harris, however, returned the favor and intercepted Collins to suck the wind out of Tennessee.

The Jets took the lead early in the game when Ryan Mouton botched a punt and the ball was jumped on by Larry Izzo. It only took Sanchez four plays to take advantage of the swing, finding his new favorite target, Jerricho Cothcery, for a six-yard touchdown. The Titans took the lead just after halftime when Nate Washington gobbled up a nine-yard pass for a touchdown to make it 17-14. But the Jets took back the momentum, scoring on each of their next two drives and never looked back.

Titans running back Chris Johnson ran for 97 yards after his 285 total yard performance.
