NFL News - October 4th, 2009 - Written by John
For two quarters, the Washington Redskins were showing more of the same. Sputtering drives, tiny running lanes and minimal yardage gains only incited an already unruley crowd at FedEx Field and the Redskins found themselves ina 10-0 hole at the half.
Then something just clicked. DeAngelo Hall picked off Josh Johnson midway through the third quarter and Washington looked like a brand-new team. Nearly scoring as many offensive touchdowns as they had all season, they rallied to get back to .500 with a 16-13 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday.
Jason Campbell, who started the game a mere 5-of-12, finally hit his stride, guiding his team to a 10-play touchdown drive to make it 10-9.
Then, after wrangling Johnson on a wacky scrambling play on third down to force a punt, Campbell put the Redskins up for good. On first down, he dropped back, looked left, then fired a bomb down the right sideline. It was to a mark on the field, one that Santana Moss was the first to get to, getting behind Aqib Talib and gobbling up the pass on stride before darting into the end zone.
It was a vast difference from the first half in which Campbell was showered with boos after being picked off twice. Talib had gotten the best of him for two quarters after being lashed by head coach Raheem Morris for dropping a pick last week. He held on to the ball each time he touched it, picking Campbell of three times.
There were questions about Clinton Portis' health after he battled with a leg injury all week in practice. But he appeared to be just fine, rushing for 98 yards on 25 carries.
