NFL News - October 25th, 2009 - Written by John
One long streak was snapped, and another was preserved as the Indianapolis Colts more than covered the two-touchdown spread.
Five different players had a touchdown and Peyton Manning threw for 235 yards in a 42-6 route of the St. Louis Rams. Manning's five-game streak of 300 yards or more was snapped, however, ending a run that has only been accomplished by a handful of NFL greats. By the fourth quarter, there was little possibility that he could extend the streak. The Colts had already taken a giant lead and instead opted to turn and hand it to Joseph Addai and Chad Simpson. The Rams weren't so fortunate. They continued the stigma of owning the NFL's current longest losing streak, extending it to 18 with Sunday's loss. On the flip-side, the Colts now have 15 regular season wins in a row and won their eighth-straight road game.
Although they only ran one fewer than the Colts and had only one fewer yard rushing, the Rams were plagued by an array of miscues on offense, including two interceptions. Jacob Lacey ran back one of those picks for a touchdown late in the third quarter that only added insult to injury. It was the first defensive touchdown of the year for Indianapolis.
The score made it 28-6, and Austin Collie and Chad Simpson added touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Despite the loss, Rams running back Stephen Jackson had a huge game on the ground. Jackson had 134 yards rushing with an average of 5.8 to lead all backs, but couldn't find the end zone. St. Louis found it's lone points from the leg of Josh Brown, who kicked a 30-yarder in the first quarter and another 45-yarder in the third.
