NFL News - November 1st, 2009 - Written by John
For a team down on it's luck, losing two-straight games and hearing about it plenty by the media, there was probably no better sight for the Chicago Bears than the Cleveland Browns.
Derek Anderson only completed six passes for 79 yards and was benched in favor of Brady Quinn late in the fourth quarter to only accelerate the rage of Browns fans, who are already threatening to show up late to games in protest.
Meanwhile, the Bears moved seemlessly up-and-down the field. Jay Cutler had 225 yards through the air, and Matt Forte scored twice for the first time this season in a 30-6 romp on Sunday. Chicago still hasn't lost at home this year and was never in danger throughout the game. The Browns gained less than 200 yards for the fourth-consecutive game and have lost 13 of their last 14 games. Anderson was intercepted twice and maintained his league-low passer rating in the game.
Cleveland had it's chance to stay in the game if it shook of it's struggles. The Bears could only settle for field goals in their first three trips into the red zone, and took a 9-0 lead early on. Two of those scores were the direct result of turnovers by the Browns. The first was set up by an interception by Danieal Manning, who returned it to Cleveland's 13, and the second was set up by Jamal Lewis' fumble at midfield. The day ended symmetrically when Charles Tillman picked off Anderson at the 21-yard line and waltzed into the end zone.
Cutler bit his tongue and was bleeding after being hit late by Kamerion Wimbley. It didn't seem ot matter with Forte running smoothly. His first touchdown came with just under two minutes to go in the first half, punching the ball through from the one.
The Browns clawed back into the game in the third quarter, striking first on a one-yard keeper by Anderson to make it 16-6.
Cleveland was led by Jamal Lewis on the ground, nearly accumulating more yards rushing than the team had passing. He had 69 yards on 16 carries.
