Cuss Storm Coming On MNF

NFL News - October 8th, 2009 - Written by John

nflIn the NFL, players have the rare ability to personally maul someone they dislike. Not like in baseball where players have to use their pitchers fastball as a channel to send a message. In football, personal vendetta's can be settled by going right after someone. Think 2007 when Pittsburgh Steelers safety Anthony Smith, then a rookie, antagonized Tom Brady in the media. Brady went directly at Smith the entire game, throwing a touchdown pass right at him before barking in his face and mocking him with a shoulder tap.

And when Channing Crowder and Leon Washington bicker? Well, they, like, totally start cussing.

Crowder told the Associated Press that his feud with the New York Jets extends past head coach Rex Ryan, and filters down so far as to their special teams.

“Every time (Washington) sees me, he starts cussing,” Crowder told the AP Wednesday. “I see him and I start cussing. It’s going to be like that the whole game.”

Crowder's Miami Dolphins meet Washington's New York Jets this week with the division lead on the line. New England is already 1-1 after losing to the Jets on the season and that is New York's lone division win. Miami beat Buffalo last week so the winner here will be the only one with two divisional wins.

It might be pertenant to state right now that Crowder played football at the University of Florida and he met Washington every year when the Gators played against Florida State. At the time they were both in school, the team's were still relatively competitive and the rivalry still seemed pretty fierce. Now they find themselves fighting for the division lead and thumbing their teeth at each other more than ever.

“We do not like each other,” Crowder added. “With Florida State, I hated him. I hate him now. If I see him out, I’m not going to talk to him. I’m not going to slap him, but I’m not going to be pleasant.”

Washington, a Pro Bowler in 2008, has been mostly utilized for his return skills and led the NFL with 2,332 combined yards with nine total touchdowns. He has never totaled more than 650 rush yards in any season but was tied for the NFL lead with 10 plays of 40 yards or more.

Crowder had a career season last year. He had 92 tackles in 15 games and forced one fumble. This year he has 14 tackles, and apparently a very dirty mouth.

He did apparently exonerate Ryan somewhat after the two had exchanged words, saying on NJ.com, "he’s okay. He’s a young coach. He got caught up in the bull, and as a coach you can’t do that. It wasn’t that big a deal."

But he didn't extend the courtesy to Jets' rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez.

"Sanchez is probably the only person I haven't cussed out, because he's a rookie," Crowder said. "He'll get cussed out this week... It's a rivalry. They don't like us. We don't like them."
