Poker News - July 14, 2009 - Written by Bonnie
Day 6 of the 2009 WSOP has come to and end and after a grueling day of play that included 5 two hour levels, leaving only 64 players still standing from the 185 that started Day 6 with high hopes and a shot at the first place prize of $8,546,435. Leaving the tournament early in the game were poker players Cole South, Chris Bjorin, John Monnette, Joe Serock, Thierry Van den Berg, and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, who managed to hold chip leader position throughout a good portion of the tournament, all left within the first level of Day 6. Also making a early exit was the 2005 Main Event champ Joe Hachem, poker players Sarne Lightman, and David Benyamine.
By the time the dinner bell rang, only 101 players were remaining. Noah Boeken, Kenny Tran and even last years champion Peter Eastgate were sent to the rails, putting several other players towards the top of the leaderboard such as new overnight chip leader with nearly 10 million chips. Hot on his tail is poker player Billy Kopp and the most watched player in the tournament, Phil Ivey. Phil Ivey is one name people continue to hear throughout this entire tournament. He is said to be one of the best all around poker players in the world and after what we have seen in the 2009 WSOP, it is no wonder why he is the best of the best. We are sure to see Ivey go far in this competition.
What an amazing display of poker skills we saw from the best poker players in the world. With each tournament putting us one step closer to the final table, we are seeing a more serious side of the players as the competition gets more intense. This years final table is sure to be one you do not want to miss.
